Press Kit

Welcome to the press kit for Rhian Gwen — author, headteacher, speaker, and creator of Loving Light Publishing.

Rhian writes heartfelt children’s books and wellbeing resources that gently support conversations around grief, healing, emotional literacy, mindfulness, and the big questions of life. Inspired by her own personal journey through loss, her work is rooted in compassion, hope, and the belief that children deserve honest, supportive spaces to explore their feelings and experiences.

Her books and resources are now being used by families, schools, counsellors, charities, and wellbeing practitioners to help children navigate grief, build emotional resilience, and reconnect with themselves, others, and the natural world.

This press kit has been created to provide event organisers, bookstores, educators, journalists, and media outlets with easy access to biographies, book information, images, speaking topics, and contact details.

Biography

Rhian Gwen is a Welsh author, headteacher and creator of Loving Light Stories. Inspired by the wild landscapes, ancient places and folklore of Wales, she writes stories that bring the country’s legends and mythical creatures to life for a new generation.

Her latest work explores the stories held within the landscapes of Gower and beyond—from mysterious women of the water and fairy folk (Tylwyth Teg),  to dragons, witches and voices carried through the centuries.

Through her books and resources, Rhian encourages children and families to explore the places around them, discover their local legends and look at familiar landscapes with fresh curiosity. She believes that when children connect with the stories of a place, they develop a deeper sense of wonder, belonging and care for the natural world.

As an experienced educator, Rhian is passionate about making Welsh folklore exciting and accessible to children. Her stories combine history and traditional legend with imagination, inviting young readers to wonder:

What stories might the stones, rivers and ancient pathways around us still remember?

Her Mission

Rhian’s mission is to preserve and reimagine the legends of Wales so that they continue to be discovered, shared and loved by future generations.

Through stories, school resources and family adventures, she hopes to:

  • Introduce children to the magical creatures and legends of Wales.
  • Encourage families to investigate the folklore of their own communities.
  • Reconnect children with nature, history and the places around them.
  • Inspire curiosity, creativity and a sense of belonging.
  • Keep Welsh stories alive through imaginative new retellings.

Her forthcoming book, The Legend of Three Cliffs Bay, is inspired by the dramatic Gower landscape and the folklore surrounding its rivers, castle, caves and ancient stones.

Stories for Healing and Hope

Rhian’s writing is also deeply shaped by her personal journey through loss and healing. Her Loving Light books, meditations and resources help children and families explore grief, emotions and life’s biggest questions with gentleness and honesty.

Although her stories may follow different paths—from ancient Welsh legends to grief and emotional wellbeing—they share the same heart: helping children feel connected to themselves, to one another and to the world around them.
