GRIEF LITERACY IN SCHOOLS. FREE RESOURCE RESOURCES.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of speaking with teachers and school leaders about the importance of grief literacy in our schools.

Not just how we support children after a bereavement… but how we begin opening gentle, honest conversations about life, loss, love and the BIG questions many children quietly carry.

As both a Headteacher and a bereaved mother, this work is deeply personal to me. After losing my daughter, I began to understand grief differently — not simply as sadness, but as something that touches every part of being human.

During the session, I shared examples from my “Big Questions” presentation — the kinds of questions children often wonder about quietly in their hearts:

✨ Does a caterpillar die?
✨ Why are we here?
✨ What is life?
✨ What does Mother Nature teach us about life? And more …

We explored how schools can create emotionally safe spaces where children feel able to think, wonder, reflect and talk openly without fear or shame.

Because children are already asking these questions.
Sometimes out loud.
Sometimes silently.

Grief literacy is not about having all the answers.
It is about being brave enough to hold the conversation with compassion, honesty and care.

Thank you to everyone who listened so openly today. It gave me so much hope to see educators recognising the importance of emotionally available adults and meaningful conversations in helping children navigate both grief and life itself. 🌿✨

And here is a presentation to support you in your schools should it help begin these important conversations. 🤍

I have included the incredible charities run by bereaved parents who work tirelessly to support families in grief.
